Celebrate Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) with a special hands-on Children's Onigiri Workshop at JACCC! Led by Naoko Takei Moore, owner of TOIRO and author of A Very Asian Guide to Japanese Food, this family-friendly experience invites children (ages 5 and up) to learn the art of making onigiri (Japanese rice balls). Using simple ingredients like rice, nori, and delicious fillings such as salted plum, tuna mayo, and furikake, participating children will shape, fill, and decorate their own creations, transforming this beloved Japanese staple into a fun and creative meal.
Alongside the workshop, families can explore a traditional Hinamatsuri doll display, celebrating the Japanese holiday that wishes health and happiness to children. Before or after the session, participants will also have the opportunity to meet Naoko Takei Moore and get a signed copy of her latest book, deepening their appreciation for Japanese food culture. As a special treat, each participating child will receive a small bento box goodie bag as a gift.
Tickets are limited—don’t miss this chance to explore Japanese traditions and enjoy a hands-on culinary adventure.
