Learn the Okinawan tradition of Bokashi composting, an anaerobic process that uses a special additive to ferment kitchen waste, including meat and dairy, into healthy soil and nutrient-rich fertilizer for your plants. Participants in this workshop are invited to enjoy a special refreshment- Mottainai Shave Ice! 

Participation in this workshop supports Sustainable Little Tokyo's ongoing effort to combat food waste in Los Angeles.


  • The workshop is FREE, but donations of $5-10 to Sustainable Little Tokyo are welcome.
  • Supplies to make one bag of bokashi: $5
  • Bokashi Kit (1 bucket set + bokashi supplies for one bag): $35
  • Sliding scale for low-income individuals.
  • We will be accepting cash or Venmo only.
