Listen to a world of Japanese synth-pop, new wave, and art rock in JACCC's beautiful zen garden.
In 1979, Yellow Magic Orchestra took the world by storm with the release of their second album Solid State Survivor. Blending drum machines, Japanese melodies, and new wave sensibilities, the trio of Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yukihiro Takahashi created their own Japanese vision of techno-synth-pop. As YMO traveled the world, other artists in Japan were also creating their own lanes within synth-pop and new wave including Ippu-do, Plastics, P-Model, Mariah, and others. This listening session will focus on the expanding worlds of synth-pop, new wave, and art rock sounds from those groups, as well as their influence on subsequent artists. Listening session and DJ set hosted by In Sheep's Clothing's own and recent KCRW resident Tana Yonas aka DJ Passionfruit. Enjoy a curated selection of Japanese whiskey, beer, and wine by JACCC, alongside ramen bowls by Sabaku Sessions.
World of Japanese Synth-Pop, New Wave & Art Rock Listening Party is part of an ongoing collaborative listening series between JACCC and In Sheep’s Clothing.
