About
As part of the Getty Marrow Internship Program, JACCC's Getty Marrow Visual Arts Intern will be exposed to opportunities in exhibition planning for both contemporary and traditional forms, archiving, and special events. In providing day-to-day curatorial support, the intern will learn the basic programmatic and technical aspects of what it takes to present visual and cultural arts exhibitions. Specifically, the intern will have the opportunity to support a traditional Japanese culture workshop series at a senior retirement home, an anime exhibition with works by students from Japan, and engage with over 200 traditional Japanese artists during the 83rd Annual Nisei Week Festival in August.
The intern will immerse themselves in the diverse Japanese culture and deepen their ties with the surrounding Japanese community. Throughout the summer, the intern will work with supervisors to research and develop a deeper understanding of how Japanese traditional arts such as tea ceremony, flower arranging, and calligraphy are grounded in a non-western aesthetic and practice.
A displayed enthusiasm for the visual arts, interest in traditional Japanese culture, and stamina to multitask are key requirements. The applicant must feel a connection to the mission and work of JACCC.
