We're overjoyed to share the wonderful success of the National Theatre's Bunraku puppet theater performances, made possible by our dedicated patrons and sponsors. For the first time in nearly two decades, Angelenos were able to witness the stunning artistry and emotional power of this globally influential dramatic form at JACCC’s Aratani Theatre.
The two featured works, Date Musume Koi no Higanoko (Oshichi, the Greengrocer's Daughter) and Sonezaki Shinju (The Love Suicides at Sonezaki), captivated audiences with their intricate puppetry, intricate set designs, and timeless tales of love and sacrifice. Under the expert scenography of Kazuo Oga, renowned art director of Studio Ghibli films, the performances transported viewers to the heart of classical Japanese theater.
This cultural exchange was made possible through the unwavering dedication of our sponsors, whose support ensured that Angelenos could experience the rich heritage of Bunraku in all its glory. We are deeply grateful to:
Your generosity has allowed us to share the beauty and artistry of Bunraku with a new audience, further strengthening the cultural ties between Japan and the United States. We are honored to have you as partners in this endeavor.
To our patrons who attended the performances, thank you for your enthusiasm and appreciation. Your presence and applause were a testament to the universal appeal of this captivating art form. We are thrilled to have been able to provide you with this rare opportunity to witness the legacy of Bunraku.
The National Theatre's successful run of Bunraku at JACCC is a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the dedication of our supporters. With your continued backing, we look forward to bringing more extraordinary theatrical experiences to our community in the years to come.
